FAQs - Please contact me if you have any other questions!

How do I know if I need counselling?

Something has brought you to this website, perhaps you are not feeling yourself recently, perhaps you are struggling in relationships, perhaps you feel the world is against you, perhaps you experienced trauma as a child and you just need to tell someone.  Counselling is not a one size fits all, and I offer a space for you to simply be and to share as much or little as you want to.  I am trained in multiple theories, so whether you just need to feel heard, or you have a specific goal to work towards, we can work together in finding a way to move forward.

How many sessions should I have?

As many or little as you want!   I do not commit you to a set number of sessions, we can agree and allow this to evolve through our time together.  The more sessions you have, the more our professional relationship can develop which will undoubtedly help you to feel more at ease to share and be you in the counselling room.

As a guideline, and to help set expectation, most have a minimum of 6 sessions (total cost £270).    However, there is no pressure or commitment and this can evolve through our time together.

Where are you based?

I share a counselling room with a friend / colleague at Greetwell Place in Lincoln.   She is also fantastic and if my work schedule does not fit yours, her website is https://www.cathystonescounselling.co.uk/

When you arrive, park in the car park at the back, to the far side from the main entrance.  You do not need to visit reception, just wait by the doors at the back and I will come down and meet you when it's time for your session.

How do I pay?

You can pay session by session and I accept bank transfer (48 hours prior to session) or cash at the start of a session.  You will be sent bank details once your first session is booked in.

Should I have Face to Face or Online Counselling?

This is an important question to consider as this will differ for everybody.  If you are close to Lincoln and able to, then I would recommend face to face.  However, you may feel more comfortable at home and doing it online.  Some people feel it is easier to open up face to face, and others prefer being on their own in their home.

Benefits of Face to Face:

  • It can feel more personable and therefore easier to create connection using body language as well conversation to sense how you are feeling.

  • The counselling room is a safe, confidential space with no interruptions from the outside world.

  • It can be easier to do exercises and explore tools face to face, as we can do this together.

Benefits of Online Counselling:

  • Counselling therapy from your own home at a time that suits you.

  • Secure inscription software offers confidentiality and peace of mind.

  • Ability to access therapy more immediately with no need to travel.

What do I need to be able to do Online Counselling?

A computer or laptop in a quiet place where you cannot be heard or interrupted with a reliable internet connection is the ideal.  However, most Smartphones and devices will be able to click on the link I send to you and connect as well.  It helps to have the camera on when we are working together, but I understand that you may not feel comfortable to do this.

Things to consider for Online Counselling:

  • Are you comfortable using internet technology?

  • Is your internet connection reliable?

  • Are there other devices in the house currently using the internet that could slow down the connection?

  • Is there a computer terminal that you can use privately without interruption?

  • Are there any Smart devices (such as Alexa) nearby that may be able to 'listen in'?

  • Would you prefer to see a counsellor face to face?

  • Do you feel you can express your feelings well using words?

  • Do you feel your situation is too complex to discuss via the internet?

What if I change my mind?
That's okay!    Sometimes opening up can trigger a lot more in our daily lives and then it doesn't feel the right time.  Sometimes, we just might not find that connection and you are not getting what you need from the sessions.  Sometimes we might resolve your worries quicker than expected!

I just want you to feel empowered in making the right choices for you.  I would prefer to know then to worry if you are okay and for us to be honest and open about how you are finding the sessions.  There are cancellation rules stimulated in the contract which will be fully explained.

What if I have severe allergies?

This may seem a strange one, but the room I share sometimes has a dog in it and therefore if you have a strong allergy to dog hair, then you may want to give face to face sessions a miss.  Please note, I do not have a dog in the room during my sessions.
